Event Spotlight: ClimaTech 2025

 

Last week, hundreds gathered at the MGM Music Hall in Boston to engage with leaders driving impactful change at ClimaTech. The brightest entrepreneurs, investors, government officials, and academics joined discussions to spark ideas and foster collaboration to advance climate solutions, while outside, attendees explored the newest innovations in sustainable mobility and robotics technology.

Keynotes and panels featured speakers like Maura Healey, the Governor of Massachusetts, John Mennel, Managing Director and US Sustainability Leader at Deloitte, Alaina Adams, Sustainability Product Lead at Google, Chris Knittel, Associate Dean for Climate and Sustainability at MIT, Scott Harden, SVP and CTO at Schneider Electric; and more.

Highlights from the event:

Partnerships Across Clean Mobility
Will Graylin, CEO of IndiGOtech, Abdellah Chajai, CEO of Keolis Commuter Services, Bryan Koop, Executive Vice President at Boston Region at BXP, and Adam Urban, CTO of SparkCharge, discussed the collaborations driving the future of sustainable transportation—from electrifying the Fairmount Line to enabling last-mile delivery for FedEx with electric fleets. They also discussed how Boston and other cities can prepare for the mobility needs of visitors during the 2026 World Cup. 

AI for Earth
John Mennel, Managing Director and US Sustainability Leader at Deloitte, Alaina Adams, Sustainability Product Lead at Google, and Tod Hynes, Senior Lecturer at MIT, explored the paradox of AI-powered climate solutions, use cases including traffic prediction and disaster response, and the mistakes and limitations of AI models. 

Modernizing the Grid
Lisa Salmore, VP of Asset Management and Engineering at the National Grid, and Mike Phillips, CEO and Co-Founder at Sense, discussed decarbonizing the grid with software innovation—from leveraging adaptive, self-healing networks to smart meters like AMI 2.0—and the challenges with adopting new technologies. 

The Regenerative Organic Movement
Kyle Bowman, Senior Product Manager at Amazon Climate Pledge, Emily Cunningham, Co-Founder of True Moringa, and Christopher Gergen, CEO of Regenerative Organic Alliance, discussed how Amazon’s Climate Pledge Friendly program enables small businesses to invest in more sustainable products. Their session also touched on the importance of educating consumers and amplifying founder messages around regenerative organic agriculture. 

Climate Investment
Tyson White, Director of Breakthrough Energy, Jim Bowen, Senior Advisor at Renewable Guard, Andrew Shapiro, Founder and Managing Partner of Broadscale Group, Deanna Zhang, Co-Founder and CEO of V1 Climate Solutions, and Katie St. James, Associate at SpringLane Capital, explored the role of each player in blended capital stacks, the criteria for successful climate tech projects, and how startups can make it through the ‘valley of death’.
