You’ve been invited to speak—be it virtual or in-person—now what? Let’s talk about how to effectively use your social media platforms, especially when it comes to promoting your event, webinars and podcast episodes.

There are so many different ways to connect with audiences, but we’ll highlight how to effectively use Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram so you can let people know where you’ll be and how they can join!

Our tips for getting the most out of your promotion on social media:

  • Don’t spare any details. You should always include key information like your session date, time, location, and where to register in your post.

    • Pro-Twitter tip: With Twitter’s 280 character limit, it’s important to keep your notes short and sweet. Use a link shortener like bitly—this also helps track and provide useful data.

    • Pro-LinkedIn tip: Since you aren’t limited by word count, give audiences the full picture. With more characters available, you’re able to provide background, thoughts and tell more of a story. Of course, it’s still important to keep things concise, but you don’t have to count your characters!

    • Pro-Instagram tip: On Instagram, you’re not able to include hyperlinks in your image captions, so plan to post it on your story via sticker or put it in your bio and flag “Link in bio” in your caption.

  • Tag the event and anyone else you’ll be on stage with, and use relevant hashtags! This will increase the reach of your post and allow others to easily share your content with their networks.

  • Don’t forget to engage! Make sure to interact with other posts and replies promoting your session.

  • Add images and videos—whether shared from the event organizers or created on your own! Graphics, visuals and audio clips are always eye-catching as they easily stand out on the social feed. Emojis, GIFs and other fun graphics are a great way to add some pizzazz to your posts. Twitter is a pretty casual place, so you can obv keep it casual too

    • Pro-Instagram tip: With the visual-first aspect of Instagram, promotion looks a bit different than Twitter and LinkedIn. Given Instagram is predominantly graphics, use videos and audio clips as a way to make your post stand out.
